Zermatt – all seasons paradise – Switzerland

As much as I may love Zürich, life in the city becomes boring at times. In such situations day trips are life savers… or mood savers. In any case, on weekends not just me, many others escape the city life and go to the mountains. I took my hiking shoes and my friend, Ania, an enormous amount of excitement, a little doze of determination for doing sport and after a 3 hours smooth train ride we arrived to the beautiful, car free mountain village of Zermatt. Not only the fresh air hit our nose, but also a few rain drops coming from the massive, dark clouds above us.

We must have scared away the grumpy clouds with our big laughs ’cause once we set our feet on the trail the friendly sun came out and followed us a long while during our hike.

Before you’d believe what a professional hiker I am, I should admit that I was tempted to stop every 2 minutes to take a pic of the view?!  … And I actually did stop to do so. Just because the nature over there it’s gorgeous, pure, beautiful and so on, so on.

Still, for a daytrip from such a distance as Zürich, it’s a bit rushed, but God bless the cable car! In aprox 40 min this magic invention will take you all the way up to Matterhorn, where is winter, freezing cold, ice, wind and fog, but a special sensation, though if you take a thick jacket you will appreciate it more than I did in my thin hoodie.

Is my smile convincing you to not wear winter gear in August? Maybe the ice and snow will make you think it over.

On the way back down there’s a lot more to discover than just warmer temperatures. Some cute, little lakes and the beautiful lake of Schwarzsee surrounded by the massive rocks of the mountain. Hard not to feel connected to nature in such a place.

In Zermatt not only  mountains, also love is all around you! You don’t believe me? Have a look what’s up there on the balcony?!

🍀 Fascinating Ireland 🍀

In a short period of time, less than a week, it’s a little rushed to cover two cities and a gorgeous island. Still, I felt that I explored those places piece by piece, letting place for getting connected with nature, eating in interesting restaurants, meeting wonderful people and getting tipsy in Irish style. That being said, my advice  would be: pack and go! In as short as 5 days time, you’ll get to discover a lot more than you would expect.

Start in Dublin

Landing at 10 pm on a Saturday evening in Dublin doesn’t leave you many options, so yes, it’s a good idea to spend the night in the capital. Dublin is a rather small city and as I noticed immediately, it’s very compact in the centre. That means that most probably any of the hostels you choose to stay at it’s very likely to be surrounded by at least a couple of bars. That can be pretty annoying if you had a long day and are looking to get some rest in a calm ambiance. Forget about it, it’s not going to happen, unless you are willing to pay much more than just 15 euros/night somewhere else.

I think you got the point: Dublin has great nightlife, vibrant, noisy, full of life city centre, packed with tipsy, but friendly Irish and dozens of tourists from all around the world.

The next morning though it’s exactly the opposite. Sunday morning around 9ish you can barely see some early birds wandering around. On the other hand, unfortunately you can see a lot of waste on the streets, such as empty beer cans, bottles and basically all you could imagine that a few hours before served for making someone’s party mood.

That shortly will be cleaned away ( already should have been though) and you get to discover a pretty city in a rather grumpy day.

Weather is just a detail however, which  changes quickly in Ireland, luckily this time to better. During a day you might experience various seasons, switching just in a minute from rain to sun and so on. For a short time while the sun is up Dublin becomes bright and refreshed.

The Dublin Castle, right in the city centre is beautiful and hard to miss while walking along the river.

Temple Bar area is cute and diverse, plenty of bar, pubs, boutiques and options for eating and also accomodation. I especially liked the fact that in particular this area is full of flowers. The facades of several buildings are nicely decorated with colorful flowers, giving a special charm to the narrow streets and a romantic touch to the whole district.

Allocate for all above aprox 3 hours, that’s the average time you need for a relaxed discovery of downtown, attractions visit excluded.

Galway

From the very beginning I thought about visiting the charming city of Galway, which is just a 2 h bus ride from Dublin. July is a great time of the year, lots of events going on during the festival of arts. Galway is small, but hosts plenty of cultural events and I personally think that on it’s main street are busking the most talented amateur artists I’ve heard performing in Ireland and not only.

During the summer there is a small market, where I found my speciality for the day: crepe filled with strawberries, maple syrup and whipped cream and a mix of white and  dark Belgian chocolate. Absolutely, dangerously delicious!

In two steps you get away from the main street and you have the option of following the river for a stroll or just walk along the coast. I did both, aprox 2-3, short stops included.   Along the way you meet people who cycle, walk the dog, jog or just wander around.

Galway is as much vibrant at night as Dublin, many pubs have live music on a daily basis and the atmosphere in such places is incomparable. Irish hospitality is definitely present, it’s not unusual at all that people come over to you in the bar to cheer and ask you what brings you to their country. The funny view is when you spot the ginger Irish dude’s face turning into lobster color after a few pints of Guiness. The atmosphere is fantastic, beer is good, prices are acceptable – I don’t even wonder why pubs are full every night.

Inis Mor
The following day is looking to be exciting since I booked a scenic flight, which means I fly in a tiny plane just above Aran Islands and Cliff of Moher. The excitement fades when I receive the call in the morning, announcing that it’s cancelled due to low visibility, but instead I can still take the regular flight to the island, spend a few hours there and after fly back to Connemara. A bit dissapointed, but I’ve chosen to go and it turned out to be a great day. I hopped on right next to the pilot in the mini plane and in less than 10 minutes we were landing on Inis Mor, the largest of Aran Islands.

I took a bus tour together with some fellow travelers I met just in the bus stop. Our guide introduced us to the rich Irish culture, which is so alive on the island and took us to the most picturesque sights. Inis Mor is mesmerizing, even the sun came out to greet us.

There are several bed and breakfasts, hostels and one single hotel and one supermarket on the island. On the question : ” is there any hospital on the island?” our funny guide’s proud answer was : ” no,we are healthy: we eat fish and drink Guiness”. Locals live their simple lives, keeping traditions and the language alive, having a few cows and going fishing. It’s admirable how happy and satisfied they are, away from the agitation of the mainland, having the ability of finding the fulfillment in the beauty of the nature that surrounds them.

End in Dublin

Since Dublin has an international airport, most likely the majority ends the holiday there. If time allows you I would include also Howth. It’s a short, 30 min train ride from the centre and it’s a real treasure if you are a seafood fan.

Otherwise, The Bank on College Green, right in the heart of Dublin, is the best choice. A former bank transformed into a high class restaurant nowadays, serves a variety of delicious meals and a selection of Irish beer and whiskey in an elite ambiance. Finishing your Irish adventure must include a bar hopping and you have where to choose from for sure. If you :checked out some pubs, had a few more beers, listened to the typical music and ended up strolling around the city at 1 am with your Australian mate trying to find the right way – you did well in Ireland!

London…- where is the excitement?

Don’t get me wrong: London is an exciting city… for a first ( or second, third etc) time visitor. It’s been slowly two years since I moved out of it after living there for a year. A year enjoying all that the Brit capital has to offer.

Now, for some reason I see the city with different eyes. Of course, it’s still beautiful and diverse… but the agitation, the dirty streets, the noisy traffic became unbearable. My eyes and all my senses involuntarily compare it to Switzerland.

In the chaos I’m trying to avoid, looking for the beauty I used to admire, I still find the same pleasures in the very well known places.

A moment of relax in the middle of the crazy wildness with the iconic Big Ben in the background is a real blessing in a sunny day. Just a few steps away, a stroll on the riverside with the view of the London Eye and possibly a drink on one of the boat terraces could be also as pleasant if there were not so many tourists around.

In any case, if you get to meet the right people, which happens to be locals, they will know where to take you to wake up the fading love you have for the city. You don’t live the experience truly if you skip going out in Picadilly. Located between Oxford and Picadilly Circus, a not popular or fancy underground, members only bar takes you right to the tube ( Brittish version of metro). The bar transformed in London underground has fascinating atmopshere, generous bartenders, great music and pleasant crowd. It does worth paying a visit – discovering or redescovering London’s nightlife…

Gothenburg to Stockholm and back again

Gothenburg

Approaching Gothenburg on an early Wednesday morning makes me don’t regret at all that I woke up at 4 am. With my sleepy eyes I can spot as we are descending the peaceful lakes surrounded by rich forests and the randomly placed colorful houses.

Gothenburg airport is small and well organized, within an eyeblink I already have my luggage and I’m heading to the city. It’s getting better and better, or shall I say sweeter? Yes, sweet is the right word, because in the main railway station I discover the place where I can get my treat.

I have just 4 hours available this time, so it’s time to get moving… straight to Haga. Haga is the charming neighborhood of the city, about which locals says is the best part. It is peaceful and pretty, although it has many cafes, bars and boutiques. The vibe of the city is pleasant and the stroll is enjoyable not only because I get to see nice churches, cute buildings and well maintained green spaces, but also because I have a great company, Ana, presenting me with lots of passion.

Our destination is Slottskogen – finally managed to remember the name – the massive park, which is also home of penguins, fazans, deers and some other animals, all there for the excitement of both kids and adults.

To get from Gothenburg to Stocholm there are a few possibilities, I’ve chosen the train. I wanted to enjoy the view and I was totally satisfied with it.  Unfortunately I can’t say the same thing also about the punctuality, in that matter there’s still a lot too improve, having an hour delay was pretty much disturbing.

Stockholm

Oh, Stockholm … the beautiful city on the water. Many travelers describe it as the loveliest European capital and I can see why.

It has:

– a small,but cute old town:

– viewing points at short walking distance

– narrow and wide steets:

–  flowers and flowers, lots of flowers:

– statues all over:

Stockholm is a very photogenic city, in any direction you point your camera, for sure you will be able to capture a nice sight. I especially love the waterfront  in every city and in particular in Stockholm. The blue sky reflecting in the water and the laid back atmosphere create the right spot for locals and not only. On a Saturday morning I could observe a lot of people jogging, having a walk, pushing strollers or just wandering around like me, in this gorgeous place. The view is fantastic and the weather just perfect.

For the curious eyes of the tourists there is located also the city hall and if in the meantime a boat tripping idea occurs, they are departing from right there.

Even though at first Stockholm might seem to be a big city, it’s actually not. In such a short time you can find yourself in a completely different part of the city. You can travel back in time as well if you fancy. For instance, back in the ’80’s. With other words back to Abba. It’s as easy as going to the museum, more precisely to the Abba museum. I’m not such a museum person, but I like to visit one or two from time to time and this one goes to the category of the interesting museums.

It’s entertaining, fun and challenges you to prove your singing or dancing skills. If you take the audio guide you will hear the story of the band from the four famous Swedish characters, who’s music made our parents break the dance floor and it’s still oldie, but goldie.

For the passionate and frequent museum goers there’s enough to do for at least a couple days in the area. I admired just a few museums and only from outside and let me blame the weather for this : the sun was shining on my face like begging me: don’t go in, I’m here to make your day beautiful. However, there’s a lot to choose from and with another occasion I might check out a few of the following:

By then I checked out some others while passing in front of them and they caught my attention either because:

– I didn’t like the too much golden :

– or would have liked to step inside but was pressed by time :

They might have not been enough time for  museums, but for food and getting to know some Swedish people there was. And it was valuable time. Shall I start with the people or with the food? Both have in common one thing: they might seem strange at first but once you get to know – in the case of the food to taste – them, you will always want to have a piece. Swedish people are genuinely interested in hearing your story, they have the ability of seeing and appreciating that special thing in you which makes you unique. Their kindness and politeness, respect and warm heart has no limits. Their blond hair and blue eyes makes you feel that you are on the land of beautiful people.

The traditional Swedish food is based on potatoes mainly, but meatballs and lingonberries are essential ingredients to complete many meals. Although it might not sound so special, it is delicious for sure, but my highlight in the matter of food in Stockholm was actually a Lebanese restaurant where I tried for the first time frog legs. Now that will seem disgusting to many of you and you can’t even imagine how wrong your approach is. Frog legs are absolutely delicious, have a slightly similar taste to chicken and became my absolute favorite.

Unfortunately it was time to say see you soon, Stockholm and head back to  Gothenburg, this time by plane.

Gothenburg

The view again is breathtaking, though this time through the tiny window of an airplane.

Lucky me, again with the weather, I meet Ana overexcited that she takes me to the archipelago. The journey takes 1 hour by boat, obviously. We are given the option of getting off on any of the few islands we are passing, but we choose to go to Vrångä, the biggest, the furtherest and considered to be the most beautiful. The view is marvelous on the way there and once we get to the island another world opens up in front of us.

A peaceful and gorgeous island, where you can walk to the beach, climb up on the rocks, wander between the trees, following narrow trials and listening the sound of the ocean and the sea birds. We completely lost the sense of time while exploring, time goes by in a different rhythm there, but we are due to head back to city.

If in the need of a break from the everyday life, that’s the place to be…

Helsinki

As you arrive to the Finnish capital you realize that it’s all relaxed,laid-back and calm. There’s no chaotic rush even at the airport. The first tip: don’t rely on the bus drivers. Many of them don’t speak English, the others just don’t bother giving you proper directions. However, on your own you figure out easily how the transportation works, after all even the metro system consists just of a single line, the second one being still in plan.

The massive building above is the main railway station, located in the compact center of the city, where every attraction is at a short walk or tram ride distance.

Weather can be pretty much diverse: in 3 days I had part of heavy rain, sun, wind, cold and cloudy, but bearable temperatures too. Obviously as the weather changes the whole atmosphere suffers a transformation. The Helsinki Cathedral on a rainy day:

The same location on a sunny day with the occasion of Vappu events:

Vappu starts on 30th of april with a lot of music, drinks and a big crowd at the Havis Amanda statue. Students wearing their colorful overalls and the must have white hats, wash the statue and place a hat on it, while everybody cheers and drinks champagne.

The next day, on 1st of May the celebration continues in Kaivopuisto Park with picnicking and more sparkling wine.

With this occasion the Finnish, as know a reserved nation, go a bit crazy and open up much more than usually.

Besides Vappu, there’s still a lot to see and experience in Helsinki. We are still in the center, where at every corner you spot either a cozy bar or an inviting restaurant. You shouldn’t skip either of them. The offer is large when it comes to food, but it is worth trying some Finnish speciality such as reindeer meat. I felt pity for the reindeer, but still couldn’t resist the temptation… In Zetor, a cosy Finnish restaurant in the center you have plenty specialities to choose from.

For drinks in a nice ambiance go to Kaisla. For beer fans there are more than 100 diferent types to choose from, quite a few Finnish as well obviously.

We shouldn’t forget that we are close Santa’s place, Lapland and it’s a good occasion to try out some food from right there.

Besides te very typical reindeer specialities, salmon soup is absolutely delicious and after the tötteröletut ( pancake speciality) I guarantee that you’ll lick all your ten fingers.
This trip was full of amazing food and nice bars, one of them located in Torni hotel, where besides the cute bar and it’s good variety of drinks, also the toilet needs visited. I’m not pointing that out without reason, but I suggest taking the effort of going to the restroom even if you don’t need it. I guess you are a bit confused now, I just let the view speak for itself. View from the Torni toilet:

Helsinki is awesome, but isn’t it cool that in less than 15 min ferry ride you are on a gorgeous island called Suomenlinna? Such a fantastic, Unesco World Heritage site, with beautiful nature and lot of history.

In Helsinki you can see several beautiful and unusual churches as well. Their architecture may be different, but most of them serve to the same religious orientation. Some of them you can spot from far away as being religious institutions, others you wouldn’t guess what they are actually.

The fact is that all above represent churches and are an important part of the daily Finnish life. Speaking of which, hockey becomes essential when the championship starts. Just a few hours before my flight back to Zürich I’ve been invited to Sports Academy Bar to cheer for Suomi ( Finland in Finnish). Luckily they were playing against USA, so I didn’t mind, ’cause if it was against Canada I might have been the only person there cheering for the opponents. The spacious sport bar got packed in minutes with loyal fans wearing their hockey T-Shirts and hats and waving around their national flags. It was a pity leaving in the middle of the game and letting behind me this great city, where I feel I still had things to discover… at a next visit.

Belgium in 6 days

editaroundtheworld's avatareditaroundtheworld

Belgian beer and chocolate attract for sure many tourists from all around the world. Most of them land in the capital and unfortunately many don’t make their way out of it to the less well know towns. Belgium is not just about Brussels! Just a 20 minutes train ride from the airport and we are in:

This cute university town is my first stop in my Belgian backpacking trip. On a Sunday it’s very quiet and relaxed, but I don’t mind as the weather is nice and I can soak up the sun in the Botanical Garden of Leuven next to a Belgian beer.

Leuven is a university town and you can notice this while walking around and seeing at every corner the bars and restaurants advertising their special student menus at low, student prices. Though no student on a Sunday! “The city is empty of students during weekend” – locals say – ” here,in Belgium students still like to go home for the weekend and spend time with their parents.” Nice of them I would say… I have to just imagine how crowded it gets during the week and the now almost empty Oude Markt probably is murmuring.

I can still notice some movement around the city hall: a huge group of elderly tourists posing with the beautiful landmark. Conclusion: Edit come back on a weekday if you want to see the other face of Leuven!

Brugge

Before going to Brugge I watched the movie In Brugge and the town is so small that I didn’t need any direction to find the places presented in the movie. It’s loaded with tourists facing their cameras in every direction, because in every direction there is something pretty. Brugge, although is very touristy, was my second favorite town in Belgium. With it’s canals and those eye catching medieval architecture, Brugge steals your heart in an instant.

Walking around Brugge is more than relaxing, it’s a real cuddle to the soul and also a perfect ambiance to endulge in the delicious variety of Belgian chocolates. You can find any shape and flavor you desire, just at a hand stretch towards the chocolate and of course your wallet.

Ghent

From the second favorite I made my way to the first favorite. Ghent has the perfect vibe, the friendliest Belgians, the funniest Monday night out and I bet that many other – est-s. I didn’t expect so much from this town, I’m sure that also the company made a difference, but man,I really liked this place! You actually have the impression that you are wandering around a big city ’cause it’s active and full of energy. If you ask me to describe Ghent in one word, I’ll just say: alive. Let me add also: divers. It has chill riverside, busy shopping street, medieval castle, artistic grafitti and my super awesome friend, Cindy.

+ 10 for Ghent!

Antwerp

Biking in Belgium is a pretty popular way of getting around and Antwerp is a good place to do so. It’s a rather small town but with fairly enough to offer and a gorgeous train station.

You would think that the pics above are from a cathedral, right? Well, that’s the main station in Antwerp. It’s ranked as the worlds most beautiful train station and no doubts about that.

Not only the train station is beautiful in Antwerp. The city hall and various buildings in the central area worth checking out too.

We are in the country of beer, so let’s pay a bit of attention to this detail and find out that Belgium has more than 375 types of beer. Basically you can treat yourself for a whole year every day with a different kind of beer and that still leaves  you for New Year’s Eve with at least another 10 different flavores to try out. Cool, no?

Brussels

Arriving to the capital might sound exciting, but in fact it isn’t. For me Brussels was rather disappointing and from far not the prettiest place in Belgium. Such a pity that many tourists visit Brussels only and miss so much by not checking out the others.

However, Brussels is a city as any other capital, with it’s multicultural mix and the best waffles in the world.

Grand Place is not as grande ( = big) , but not too bad for hanging out , there are many shops, restaurants, bars and waffle vendors closeby.

Mmmm, did I tell you that in Brussels you have the best waffles in the world? Right, I did, but it’s hard to focus when you remember that taste. Don’t – and I mean DON’T – skip that! Waffles are a must!

Ok,getting back to Grand Place – which is still not as exciting as waffles – it’s nice to walk around and make your way to the famous Mannekin Pis.

Of course, Atomium is nice to see, there’s also a cute park next to it with lots of rabbits jumping around freely in the grass.

And you can admire the beautiful flowers all over, but after that rush out of Brussels and discover the real beauty of Belgium. In less than an hour train ride you reach:

Liège

Laidback, small town, perfect for a daytrip from Brussels. Besides the center there’s not much to see or do, but it’s great for a day when the motto is : “take it easy “.

For church lovers there are a few to check out, as I had enough time I walked in a few and were quite nice, all just a few steps from each other.

The Liège Guillemins train station is another masterpiece Belgians are proud of, being also in the top 12 most beautiful train stations in the world.

In order to put an original print on the whole trip I ended it in a Romanian restaurant in Liège. No matter where I am, for me the best food still comes from home, so I’m sorry Belgium, you might have the best beer and waffles and fries, but my yummi ciorba de perisoare doesn’t have any comparison grade. Though it’s not much appreciated by locals, says the restaurant owner.

A piece of China in the heart of Zürich

It’s that month of the year when the gates of the beautiful Chinagarten open again. Between April-November for 4 Chf everyone is welcome to step in this mesmerizing little park, where you completely forget about the outside world and for a while even about the fact that you are still in Switzerland.

Located right next to Zürichsee, just a few steps from downtown, Chinagarten awaits it’s visitors with the most beautiful magnolia trees and unique Chinese pavilions.

The garden is a gift from the Chinese partnertown ,Kunming and besides the buildings  it contains a complex mixture of plants and water world.

Pleasing to the eye, mind and soul – Chinagarten is the place to go on a sunny spring ( or summer or fall )day. The smell of the magnolia and the perfect harmony of the place is capable to produce magic.

Wonderful Zürich

Sometimes I need to think a bit about where is exactly in my case what we call:home.Home is where I was born and raised and I have my family or where I live now with no relatives around? It doesn’t really matter which one is it in the end, certain is that for more than a year now my comfort zone, my settlement and my place close to my heart is Zürich.

Zürich is rather small and peaceful, but in the same time has a great cosmopolitan and international spirit.

In my vision is also the most beautiful city and it definitely is one of the cleanest and safest not only in Switzerland.

Today was a sunny day…Zürich is wonderful in sunny days.Hiking up to Üetliberg took me around 40 minutes.Easy hike, fresh air, always the same breathtaking view, but every time blowing me away and making me fall in love again and again with this place.

I wonder… shall I call home this place that offers me such a good feeling of being just in the right spot in the right time?…

A bit of what NYC has to offer

It’s hard to name someone who didn’t ever play with the thought of being in the famous American New York City nicknamed as The Big Apple. When it comes to the USA I wouldn’t say that I’m a huge fan,I always preferred Australia if we put the two of them in a balance, but I have to admit I became super excited in the moment I spontaneously booked my flight as a result of discovering a sale on swiss.com.

We are on April 1st early afternoon landing at JFK and I’m slightly anxious of the custom procedures which follow, having unpleasant experiences two years ago in Canada. To my huge relieve the Mr Boarding Officer I’m kindly directed to by another employee,is surprisingly kind, chatty and in a great mood, even flirty I would say,so the whole procedure takes in total around 5 min and soon off I am on the AirTrain rapidly heading to the city.

Luckily I have a recently discovered native New Yorker friend,Curtis, who meets me on the way and guides me to my hostel. For a stay on a budget HI NYC hostel is the perfect choice.I’ve been more than satisfied with the quality of service, staff, room and location. It’s 2 min walk from the subway stop where you take a direct train to downtown and in aprox 20 min you are right in Times Square.

After an 8 h flight you might want to relax and rest, but the temptation of starting to explore the Big Apple in such a sunny day is winning and after quickly dropping my luggage at my new accommodation for the next few days,we are back on the train. We get off at the world famous Times Square and this spot becomes instantly my favorite and later on the most visited location too.Dominant skyscrapers all around, big crowd – though not as big as on a weekend – and just the best dynamic vibe.As stressful as it sounds and as it is for locals, you are on holiday and you don’t feel the pressure. At least I didn’t.

Times Square can’t and won’t be missed for sure once you are in NYC as it’s by walking distance to many important points of the city such as Rockefeller center, where you need to go up to the top if you want to be blown away by the view of NYC from the 67th level.

It worths also serving a delicious cocktail on the 48th level of Marriott Hotel, more precisely at the restaurant The View.Calm ambient, friendly waiters and great view. The restaurant slowly rotates, you might get dizzy only if you drink a few number of cocktails though.

It’s just my first day and I managed to get to Grand Central too. That’s the main train station in NYC and it has indeed lots to offer besides trains to various locations. When there don’t forget to have a look at the ceiling and let yourself convinced to try how it works the whisper room.A good way to find out all about that and much more take a free walking tour offered by freetoursbyfoot.com.It’s hard to believe that you can get something besides air for free in NYC,but it’s true, all the walking tours offered by the above named company are free of charge.Well, you can pay as much as you like, but it’s optional. However, the quality of the tours is high and the guides are top.

While you are still on the plane, close to landing at some point the Statue of Liberty becomes visible and that’s the moment when you realize that your whole visit to NYC would be missing something special if you couldn’t go close to it.A short ferry ride and wishes come true. The feeling of being in front of the probably most important piece of art, symbol of freedom can be described just with one word:special.I had that feeling once again when I visited the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls ( well,3 times there actually).

Hopping back on the ferry and getting of at Ellis Island to visit the National Museum of Immigration.Even if you are not such a museum person ( I’m not ) if time lets you it is interestesting to take a look.

Once back to South Ferry station hit the road by walking around.Plenty to see: such as The Bull right where Broadway starts,go on,go on and you hit Wall Street and wander between rich bankers and important companies in the financial district. If you can keep up with it and reach the end you have right in front of your eyes the Brooklyn Bridge.Maybe you need a rest …There are benches:take a seat, but still… all you see around:serious men in dark suits – financial district as I said.

For a change of scenery let’s take a stroll in Central Park,New Yorks biggest park and the scene of many Hollywood movies. This place is absolutely fantastic! Of course I wasn’t able to check out even half of it cause it’s massive, but still I consider it’s a totally awesome place. You have all you need:runners, walkers, taxis, horse carriages, walking paths, lying areas, hills, lakes, stones, zoo, fountains and God knows what else.

Another cool museum to visit and it’s just next Central Park ( if you exit on the correct gate ) is the Museum of Natural history. If you’ve seen the movie Night at the Museum you are familiar with what to expect from it:massive dinosaurs are from far the highlight.

I happened to be in NYC for Easter and took the opportunity to take part in a funny event called Easter Bonnet Festival, where all kind of hilarious dressed people and also animals where happily walking up and down the luxurious Fifth Avenue.

Besided that,on Easter Sunday I listened my spiritual calling and went to a Baptist church in order to see live a gospel service, which was quite cool – well at least the 30 min I’ve been there – and as the church was located in a neighborhood called Harlem,I visited that too and discovered a Hungarian pastry shop which unfortunately was closed otherwise I would have celebrated in Hungarian style. You probably think now: “Of course it was closed, after all it was Easter Sunday!” Wrong!Remember:we are in New York, the city which never sleeps. That applies also for Sundays and holidays: stores open and so on,so on.The Hungarian pastry shop employees must have been very happy, that was the only place I’ve seen closed on Easter Sunday!

Speaking of food (and adding drinks to it) – comes to my mind to mention a few wonderful places. It’s well known that street food in NYC is a must do,also that burgers are popular, but did you know that a regular portion of a meal is enough for one day?Oh boy, sizes are huge in that country! Hey,I’m still talking about food!Gabby O’Haras near Times Square serves the best ever turkey and onion rings,

Five Guys (Times Square) has extraordinary fries to offer,at Big Nick’s I went for a soup, but saw them serving massive, appetizing burgers. In the matter of drinks and atmosphere I really liked a small bar near Times Square, called Beer Culture:nice bartenders, good atmosphere and big beer variety. In Brooklyn, more precisely in Williamsburg try Biblio bar and their cocktails:yummi!Near Grand Central there is a really cute bar, called Snafu and it’s fantastic.I had my last cocktail there before heading to the airport and I liked not only the cocktail and the service in general, but also the atmosphere.

My trip to NYC was a great experience in many ways and the cherry on the top of the cake was watching a Broadway show. Now I know what they mean when saying:”There’s nothing like Broadway!” I can only agree.Combining culture with fun, music with dance, great talents with a wonderful teamwork results:Mamma Mia.For discounted prices try the ticket lottery or rush tickets and for as less as $32 the show goes on!Getting up at 7 am in order to get to the box office by 9 and try my chance was the right thing to do: I got the discounted tickets and made friends with nice people while waiting in the line, plus received tips for my trip to Sweden!

New York City,it was nice to meet you!
